A LETTER FROM A FRIEND Contrary to media constructed "public opinion" about dogfighting, this letter shows how a "real" dogman (a filthy, low-life dogfighter, to the media) views the game and demonstrates the deep admiration and respect he has for a game dog (APBT.) Hello Bill, Well that show came off last weekend. You'll be hearing about it from "H". The dog we used was out of Willie and a scatter bred bitch. He's the kind you expect to be a cur, but he didn't know it. We'd only looked at him 3 times. Twice for :05 minutes and once for :20. He wrecked a pretty good dog in :20 and we didn't see any bad moves so put his weight out. The first keep fell through and the next match I picked up was really into some fellows that are a little tougher than I wanted to go with an inexperienced dog, but I saw in his keep that no matter how exhausted be go he'd refuse to quit working until you stopped him. He'd have just worked himself to death if you let him go, so I though he might be pretty game. The fight started with hard mouth fighting from both dogs with my dog eventually winning out in that department and going into the chest and shoulders. I don't like a chest or shoulder dog unless they can really bite and I liked this one. He got in the other dogs chest about 30 min and was sinking his teeth so good all you could see was his gum line. I knew then if we could stay with this dog past an hour we had him whipped cause he would start to hurt from that one time. The other dog was one of the gamest I've ever seen in my life. My dog would just hammer him in the face, mouth and chest . He would come back from that and hammer mine. By the hour mark our dog had got back in the chest a couple times and really did some serious damage and I thought then that their dog was all but dead and couldn't come back. The other fellow gave it up at 1:16 and that beautiful black son of a bitch made one of the prettiest, gamest scratches you could ever witness. He came from Ozzie Stevens I understand. This was one of those cases where if you had a choice you'd probably want to breed to the dog that got whipped. That is he lost the fight, he wasn't whipped, although I understand he didn't make it. After it was over I told "H" I believe the dog I used was the best I've ever had my hands on, but he said oh no, Willie was better. The thing is Willie was the fanciest, fastest and one of the roughest dogs I ever handled and he may be a better dog simply because he was capable of producing this last one I used but I never saw and don't believe anyone else ever did see Willie fight it out mouth to mouth and take the bottom the way this son of his did when he had to. I couldn't say he's as game as the dog he beat, most aren't, but he has proven that he is a damn good, solid bulldog. His name is Mick. I don't own him so don't know what the future will bring, but I hope one day you'll get a chance to see him. |
